Dr. Scott Smith

Medical Doctor

Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dr. Smith is well-recognized for his kind and perceptive bedside manner.

After attaining his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, Scott completed a three-year Residency in Family Medicine from Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, SC.  Upon obtaining his Board Certification in Family Medicine, he and his college sweetheart, Catherine, remained in Greenwood for 22 years to raise their three sons, Zach, Josh and Eli.

Dr. Smith served as the Medical Director for a busy hospital owned Urgent Care.  While he excelled in the clinical emergency setting, he missed having continuity of care with his patients. After many years of fun-filled family vacations at the Isle of Palms and romantic getaways in Charleston, Scott and Catherine set their sites on living in Mount Pleasant, their favorite place on earth.

Dr. Smith also has a great deal of experience helping people with anxiety, depression, mood disorders and PTSD.  He is very comfortable treating these conditions as a primary care physician as well as coordinating care with a patients’ psychiatrist as needed. Dr. Smith is also currently pursuing training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  In the near future he will be certified as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist through the Beck Institute in Philadelphia.

He feels that it is most helpful to treat people with a combination of counseling and medication to help people move forward and live the life that they desire. Doctor Smith is very interested in helping people recover from overuse of prescription medicines as well as addiction issues.

Dr. Smth is specially licensed to treat patients with Buprenorphine (Suboxone, Subloccade) for opiate use disorder. He has extensive experience in helping people recover from alcohol abuse, and is able to prescribe Naltrexone and Vivitrol which are used to help with alcohol abuse problems.

Dr. Smith has received additional training in addiction and is currently the Medical Director for Lantana Recovery.

Previously a physician at Park West Family Practice, Dr. Smith, along with his wife Catherine, decided in 2019 to fulfill a lifelong goal of starting their own private practice and are excited to see patients in their beautiful new office at Smith Family MD.
